What's in a Matter?

Each Matter is modular, in that Admins can select what modules are deployed. The main modules within Fibonacci are:

  • Matter Overview: This is the landing page for the Matter. It surfaces Tasks and Events which are coming up, as well as anything which is overdue. If there are Documents that need to be reviewed you will see them here as well. The overview is designed to help stakeholders understand, at a high level, the performance of the whole Matter. It is also used by the Matter team to communicate between themselves and upwards to the Portfolio level using Progress Notes.

  • Information Panel: Every Matter has important information that all Participants need to know, like the Client Organisation, Practice Area and any custom fields which have been added. This information is generally static so we created the Information Panel on the left of your screen which is persistent but can be minimised at any time. The information you see is provided when a Matter is created and can be updated from the Manage Matter menu at any time.

  • Blueprint: This is your advanced task management engine. It enables you to build a layered task plan which reflects the type of work and your ways of working using Workstreams, Deliverables and Tasks. Tasks can be assigned to Participants, dates set and Documents linked to tasks (amongst many other helpful things) to ensure that work is being completed on time and teams are working together efficiently. Tasks in the Blueprint are visible in your personal dashboard and also at the Portfolio and Matter Overviews.

  • Timeline: A visual representation of important Events which have been created at the Portfolio or Matter level. Events can be standalone or linked to Blueprint Tasks. The Timeline can be filtered to help you see information relevant to you and exported to help with reporting.

  • Drive: This is where all of the Documents relevant to the Matter are kept. Users working on the Matter can upload their documents, set permissions, assign tags and even edit online together (including co-authoring).

What is a matter type?

A Matter Type is a template Matter which has been set up so that it is ready to use for a particular type of legal project. This includes creating custom fields and statuses which relate to the type of work being delivered. Most Matter Types are set up by practice area and jurisdiction (e.g. UK Employment Tribunal Litigation).

How can I see my Matters?

You can view all the Matters you have created or been invited to by clicking on Matters in the Navigation Menu on the left of your screen.

To access an individual Matter click on the Matter’s name. If you need help identifying the Matter you want to view, you can use the search bar or you can access detailed filters by clicking on the horizontal three-dot icon on the left of “+Create Matter”.
