All documents uploaded to the Drive are scanned for malware and viruses to help keep you and other users safe. All documents will be scanned upon upload.

Scanning documents after upload

Your documents will be scanned immediately after they have been uploaded. While your documents are being scanned you will not be able to preview, edit or download it.

While a document is being scanned this will be indicated by the “checking for viruses” message next to a document name. It will only take a short amount of time on most documents.

If you open a document while it is still being scanned, you will just need to wait a few moments before it becomes available.

If your document is safe

For most uploads, once the quick check is complete and no malware has been detected, your document will be available as usual.

If we find malware

If malware is detected in a file you have uploaded, we will remove it to keep you and other users safe.

We will also send you an email so that you’re aware of which document/s have been removed due to malware detection.

Scanning existing documents

All existing documents in the Drive will be scanned on a weekly basis. If found to be infected with malware, the document will still be visible in the Drive, but it will become disabled so you will not be able to edit or download it.
